Shenyang

Shenyang is the capital of Liaoning Province and the economic, cultural, transportation and trade center of Northeast China. Shenyang is a multi-ethnic settlement. In addition to the Han nationality, more than 30 ethnic minorities such as Manchu, Korean, Hui, Xibo and Mongolian live here.

Known as the “Gateway to Northeast China”, Shenyang is an important manufacturing and logistics hub for the region. Located in the northeast of Liaoning Province, Shenyang is close to a wide variety of natural resources and home to a large number of Chinese and foreign industrial companies. For most of the 20th century Shenyang was one of the main drivers of the Chinese economy. Today it is still home to some of its largest state-owned enterprises. It was only after the reformation policies implemented by Deng Xiaoping that the southern Chinese provinces started to take over this role. Today major industries in the city include machinery, chemicals, electronics and software. A lot of the investment comes from Korea and Japan, although large western companies have also based themselves in the city.

Well known universities in the city include Liaoning University and Shenyang Normal University. Liaoning University is located in the heart of the town, while Shenyang Normal is further out towards the northern suburbs. Facilities for foreign students in the town are good, as are connections to other cities in China.

Shenyang Imperial Palace

Shenyang Imperial Palace is a national key cultural relic protection spot and one of the two most complete existing palace complexes in China. It has now been turned into the Shenyang Palace Museum. In the 28th World Heritage Committee Conference which was held in Suzhou on July 1, 2004, China's Shenyang Imperial Palace had been included in the World Heritage List as a cultural heritage extension project of the imperial palaces of the Ming and Qing Dynasties.

Liaobin Tower

Liaobin Tower is located in Liaobin Village, Gongzhutun Town, 29 kilometers northeast of Xinmin City. The original height is 41.7 meters, and the bottom diameter is 12.5 meters. It was built according to the Buddhist belief that odd numbers represent innocence. The base of the tower is about 10 meters high, and there is a Buddha niche on each of the eight sides of the tower.

Xinle Ruins

The Xinle Ruins is a village site of a matriarchal clan commune in the early Neolithic Age of primitive society more than 7,200 years ago. The unearthed cultural relics include stone tools, pottery, refined coal products, and ancient house sites. Among them, the unearthed "wood carving bird" is the oldest precious cultural relic unearthed in Shenyang, and it is also the oldest preserved wood carving handicraft in the world.
